    My car

I purchased a new Disco in Dec 05 as my wifes car. I took the view that with my wife and three daughters in the car every day bigger would be better and safer. The car has covered 23k miles.

It does feel safe, I love the look of the car, lots of space inside and it cruises well.

I recently had a test drive in a Land Rover and could not see where the extra £30k goes.

Reliability seems a bit hit and miss, has refused to start three times when out and about for no reason. There has been lots of electrical warning lights over the past two years which do not stop you driving the car but I have to go to the trouble of bringing to the dealer. The best Fuel economy we have got is 24mpg. I have not been over impressed with the dealers.

    My car

What can I say, mines a 55 plate which replaced our TD5, it has covered some 3500 miles since our ownership, been in the workshop for 4 days in total, been recovered from M5 once, been seen on driveway by LR Assistance once, had both front suspension arms replaced,2 no 4 wheel alignments, leaking n/s diff, ceased nut on track rod end, an annoying noise accompanied by a vibration through the steering wheel when coasting down from 40mph which our appointed dealer cannot find the solution for, customer support seem inept in co-ordinating any warranty repairs and the dealer inept in doing anything that would inspire confidence, Keeping until warranty runs out, then out the door it goes with my right foot up its backside!!

Would recommend a late 04 TD5 as an alternative and buy an extended LR warranty!!!

    My car

I bought a brand new Disco 9 months ago. In that time the car has broken down six times and has developed numerous faults. The dealer has tried to help but I am fed up with the appalling reliability. I wanted to buy British but the terrible ownership experience means that I will be selling my car and it's replacement will defintely NOT be a Land Rover.

The Australians have a saying "If you want to go to the Bush you take a Land Rover, if you want to come back you take a Toyota."

    My car

This is my second TDV6. The first died at 564 miles and after much wrangling Land Rover replaced it when they could not readily cure its fault. The second behaved faultlessly until 12500mls. Service assistance came out and tried to fix it (they left saying it was ok but as soon as we started it the fault bounced back) It is now in the main dealer, they replaced a module they thought was faulty as advised by LR, but it has not cured the problem. I am a bit of a LR fan, having had many different products over the years but I have lost confidence. I want to love this vehicle but I believe it is not as reliable or durable as it should be. I usually keep new vehicles for 4 years to flatten the depreciation out but I am worried about the cost of repairs outside the main warranty period. LR have provided me with another Disco and are trying to help but I am just not sure I want another. (problem is what's the alternative) It's great for 3 children and 3 dogs, especially on long journeys, great for towing and I think really well thought out on the rear seats. It's just breaking my heart if it can't be bulletproff and reliable - isn't that what 4x4's are supposed to be. We get 29.5 mpg overall, mostly on short runs which is not bad for 2.7tons.
