I have owned this car for a year now and wanted to wait to give it a review till it had the time to go wrong. Nothing has gone wrong with this car, I didn't have to spend any money on it but have just bought little bits I wanted rather than costly repairs.
It handles well and is so much fun to drive! It's quick of the mark, not unreasonable on fuel or insurance and is a fantastic looking car. I have never been so happy with any ar that I have owned.
I bought a hard top after about 6 months of owning the car and if you get the option to add this to your car it is well worth it making the car a lot warmer in winter months.
Although this is the best car I have ever had there a couple of negatives. First of all should it snow, you are screwed! The car does not behave well in snow! The only other problem is the lack of storage. However compared to some other reviewers I wouldn't say it made the car unusable.
I often use my MR2 for the weekly shop and whilst my girlfriend might be buried under a few shopping bags we manage to get everything in.
I was going to buy a luggage rack for teh boot but after having several weekends away without one, decided it wasn't worth it. If you take your time packing the storage bins you can get enough in there for two people on a long weekend.
All in all a fantastic car, cheap to run, toyota servicing is reasonable and of a high standard.
Love this car!!!
I was lucky enough to own a TF300 for almost 2 years, from brand new, and purchased it with every optional extra available, including a rare TTE turbo kit, and various other TTE and TRD extras.
I absolutly adored this car, it was fantastic to drive, solidly built, and very reliable, I had absolutly no problems with any aspect of the car, the build quality was fantastic, I grinned every time I got in it, and when the roof was off it was even more fun. I am 6'2" tall, and fitted inside the car very comfortable.
The only down side to the car was its lack of storage space, and inpracticality, but as a general A to B commuting car, weekend breaks away, and small levels of shopping, it was perfect for my needs. To increase storage room and reduce weight, I removed the spare wheel, and installed puncture resisting gel in the tyres, and carried 2 Holts tyre weld cans in the glove box.
Unfortunatly circumstances prevented me from keeping the car, and I regretfully had to get rid of it, Please Toyota, when will you be making another MR2 roadster type car again.
I have owned my 53 plate MR2 since Jan 08, I purchased the car to commute fortnightly 250 miles to Aberdeen and to put a smile on my face after the sale of my motorcycle.
This car is a hoot to own, I'm 6'2" and I can get in and out no problem, I travel none stop for over 200 miles regularly and have no problems. It is quick and the handling is brilliant in the dry, as with any car care is required in the wet. Fuel economy is good with 35 MPG plus attainable with ease.
Yes it is totally inpractical, but then my other car is a Volvo estate, so who cares? I bought this car for cheap reliable open air fun and it ticks every box, when are Toyota going to make a new one? I've got my pen in my hand ready to sign up now!
I purchased my beloved MR2 VVT-i in November last year, having owned all previous marks of MR2s. I have had absolutely no problems with "her" and she handles like a dream, I felt the luckiest girl alive in the good weather when taking to the country lanes at the speed of light and her sticking to the road like glue. HOWEVER, I have had an engine warning light appear on the dashboard so took it to Toyota for inspection only to be told that there is a major engine fault and I need an engine rebuild or new engine. Toyota also kindly told me that this is not an unusual fault and that in fact it is a common fault and was known since the manufacturing stages. Toyota also told me that there is a 7 year warranty on the car due to this fact. Given that my car is over 7 years old (just, by 2 months) there is NOTHING that Toyota WILL do to assist. I have written letter after letter, made phone call after phone call. The outcome being that I need to spend £3k on a new engine. I feel cheated. I have bought every mark of Celica and MR2 that Toyota built and I can guarantee that this will be my last Toyota. Their "after sales" treatment of their customers is absolutely appalling. Yours, a very disgruntled, MR2 owner.

Amazing car, once driven, never forgotton, forget all the pretenders like BMW Z4 and Mercedes SLK, they will never have the passion of a Porsche
I love this car! Handling is great, its fun to drive and even reasonably practical!
