The A5 Sportback blends coupé-like styling with decent practicality. If you want something that's efficient to run, comfortable and refined, with a beautifully executed interior, it's one of the best coupés for the cash. It also handles well, but if you prefer thrilling and playful rear-wheel-drive dynamics, we'd opt for the excellent BMW 4 Series instead.
The engine
This is the only diesel option and has the same power output as the TFSI 204, with 201bhp and a 0-62mph time of 7.7sec. Top speed is 149mph. A four-wheel drive quattro version is available.
