The model
Read full reviewThe Audi A6 Avant is a comfortable, quiet and technologically advanced estate that's beautifully built. A BMW 5 Series Touring is better to drive and has a more user-friendly infotainment system, though.
The trim
See full equipmentOn top of Black Edition trim, you get 21in alloy wheels, adaptive suspension, four-wheel steering (not including the 40 TDI), a panoramic glass roof, 4-zone climate control, a head-up display, heated rear seats and a few other luxuries. Too expensive to recommend.
The engine
See full engine specsIn this entry-level 201bhp 2.0-litre diesel form, the A6 is a tad slow off the mark, but only because its standard seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox hesitates when you put your foot down. It's plenty brisk enough thereafter, though with 0-62mph taking 8.1sec, and more efficient than the equivalent BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class in real-world conditions. Automatic only, and we prefer the front-wheel drive, non-Quattro version
