The new Audi Q5 is comfortable and great to drive (especially with the optional adaptive air suspension), backed up by a practical boot and versatile rear seats. It managed to narrowly beat the BMW X3 (diesel) and Volvo XC60 (PHEV) in our group tests, but it’s a shame the interior quality isn’t as upmarket as you’d hope for the price. Our recommended version is the punchy and refined TDI diesel engine.
The engine
Likely to be of particular appeal among company car drivers, the 295bhp 50 TFSI e is just as quick as the 45 TFSI but adds a useful electric-only driving range of up to 37 miles (36 miles in Vorsprung trim).
