Jim Holder has been editorial director at What Car? since 2014, as well as for other market-leading automotive brands, including Autocar, Car Accessory Trader (CAT), Classic & Sports Car and Move Electric, in the Haymarket Automotive portfolio. 

He started as a motorsport journalist in 1996, covering everything from stock car racing through to Formula 1. This included reporting for national titles including The Daily Telegraph, The Daily Star and Reuters as chief Formula 1 correspondent. 

Jim has previously edited Motorsport News, What Car? and Autocar, who he still writes for regularly. In September 2015 Jim took on a broader role as a commentator during the Volkswagen emissions scandal, appearing on BBC television and radio, Channel 4 News, Good Morning Britain and more. He also appeared at a Parliamentary Select Committee to share his expertise with UK MPs investigating VW’s actions.

Today, Jim helps steer the long-term ambitions of all of Haymarket Automotive’s brands, including representing the publishing industry as a speaker at numerous events, and is a well-respected industry commentator in the wider media, including regularly contributing to mainstream broadcasters such as the BBC and industry titles including Car Dealer Magazine and Automotive Management.

Jim graduated from Reading University in 1996 with a degree in history.
