Review

The BMW 3 Series leads the charge in the premium executive class. Its primary appeal is in the way it drives, but its engines, standard equipment list and infotainment system are first rate as well. The firm ride on M Sport models is just about the only thing we can grumble about in this near-flawless executive car.

get the best price

Brings an even more aggressive look, although you’re not getting a whole lot more than added style for your money with 18in wheels, digital instruments and a bigger 10.3in infotainment screen being the main upgrades. The ride is firm on standard M Sport suspension, so think about adding optional adaptive M suspension – it's part of the expensive M Sport Plus package but it makes the ride a lot smoother.

The entry-level diesel, the 148bhp 318d, has good mid-range flexibility so it never feels slow, but if your budget can cover it, we recommend going for our favourite 320d that adds performance without any penalties for either CO2 emissions or fuel consumption.
