The Deepal S05 looks like a decent choice on paper. It’s quick enough, comes packed with standard kit, and the long warranty should give you some peace of mind. However, to drive, the S05 fails to live up to standards set by most of its rivals, let alone the class-leading Skoda Elroq. The ride is uncontrolled and the handling quite sloppy. Other issues include its fiddly touchscreen, so-so interior quality and uncompetitive electric range.
