Vauxhall Ampera: prices and specs

The Vauxhall Ampera will cost from 29,995 (including Government grant), with order books opening for the range-extending car today.

That's 1000 more than original expectations and puts the price gap between the Ampera and its cheaper sister car, the Chevrolet Volt, at 1500.

Entry-level versions come with DAB radio, seven-inch touch-screen control monitor, cruise control and alloy wheels.

Mid-spec Positiv versions get a leather interior, heated front seats and parking sensors with a rear-view camera. These models cost from 33,250. At 33,395, top-of-the-range Electron versions get a colour touch-screen, sat-nav, an updated stereo, DVD player and voice-controlled navigation, telephone and music systems.

Deliveries of the Ampera begin May 1.

Vauxhall is also launching a special after-care package for Ampera owners called MyAmpera. Customers will be given the telephone number and email address of their own personal Ampera agent, who will be based at Vauxhall's HQ.

Customers will also have a free collection and delivery service for all scheduled servicing, warranty and repair work and the car also comes with Vauxhall's Lifetime Warranty and eight-year battery warranty.

The car maker has nominated 23 specialist Vauxhall retailers where the Ampera will be sold, saying the majority of owners will have a specialist dealer within a one-hour drive of their home.
