The Arona remains a great choice in the small SUV class, and one that undercuts many of its rivals on price. It'll prove spacious enough inside for most people and is one of the more enjoyable cars in this class to drive, too. The Ford Puma is even better to drive, though, and the Skoda Kamiq is roomier, more comfortable and plusher inside.get the best price

FR trim is the sporty-looking option. Most of the extras you get over SE Technology trim are styling trinkets – different front and rear bumpers and privacy glass etc – although you do also gain climate control, multi-coloured ambient lighting, power-folding door mirrors, an automatically dimming rear-view mirror, bright LED headlights, an alarm and rain-sensing wipers.

The 148bhp 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol delivers much nippier acceleration (0-62mph takes just 8.2sec) than either of the 1.0-litre units, but pushes the Arona's price into the territory of bigger, more grown-up cars such as the Volkswagen T-Roc.
