The Volkswagen Tayron offers seven-seat versatility, a big boot and fine driving manners. A Peugeot 5008 is slightly more spacious in the third row of seats, but the Tayron trades that for a more user-friendly driving position and a wider choice of engines. We’d recommend sticking with the 1.5 TSI 150 Elegance but company car drivers will be better off with the eHybrid (although that gets only five seats).
The trim
Entry-level Life trim includes 18in alloy wheels, three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, wireless phone-charging and adaptive cruise control.
The engine
This is the entry-level petrol engine in the Tayron. It uses mild-hybrid technology to bolster its performance and fuel economy, producing 148bhp and completes the 0-62mph sprint in 9.4 seconds. Top speed is 127mph, and a seven-speed automatic gearbox is standard.
