The Volvo XC90’s updates have successfully addressed some issues. It’s quieter and more comfortable than before, while the infotainment system is no longer one of its biggest flaws. The BMW X7 is even more well rounded but also much more expensive. Our pick of the XC90 range is the B5 petrol in mid-range Plus trim, because the price remains reasonable and you get comfort-enhancing air suspension.
The trim
The entry-level trim is well equipped. It gets adaptive cruise control, automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, heated front and outer middle-row seats), a heated windscreen and steering wheel, a powered tailgate, 20in alloy wheels and four-zone climate control all come as standard.
The engine
With its 0-62mph time of 5.4sec, the T8 plug-in hybrid is quick, and it can officially travel up to 44 miles on electric power alone. It's the best choice if you'll be running an XC90 as a company car.
