Goodbye Vauxhall Vectra, hello Insignia

29 November 2007

Vauxhall has confirmed it will replace the Vectra name with Insignia when it launches its new family car at the British motor show in July 2008.

The company says the name change is necessary as its new car will move Vauxhall's image upmarket.

'The Insignia's level of comfort and environmental friendliness is unrivalled even among considerably more expensive competitors,' said Alain Visser, chief marketing officer, General Motors Europe.

Vauxhall has built the Vectra since 1995, producing two generations of the car and selling more than one million models in the UK to date.

Although no images of the finished Insignia have been released, it is reported to be visually similar to the GTC concept car that Vauxhall showed at the Geneva motor show this year.
