An iconic British sports car name could be reborn this year, with the arrival of new, 21st-century Healeys.

A British-American consortium called HFI is reviving the brand, perhaps best well known from the Austin-Healey collaboration, which produced cars such as the Sprite, 100 and 3000 models. HFI hopes to relaunch the marque with two new models.

It has bought the Healey Automobile Consultants company that Donald Healey established in 1955. HFI managing director Tim Fenna told the Daily Telegraph: 'I'm pretty excited about it. We've been working on this for two years.'

Fenna told the paper that the one prototype is already being tested, while work on the platform for a second is also underway.

Nanjing Automobile, the successful bidder for MG Rover, also says it plans to build sports cars at Longbridge carrying the Austin-Healey name.
