Lexus' executive hybrid now on sale
- GS450h hybrid on sale from £38,015
- Power from 3.5-litre V6 and electric motor
- Combined power output of 342bhp
The new Lexus GS450h hybrid is available now priced from £38,015.
That makes the entry-level version of the petrol-electric hybrid £7210 more expensive than the conventional petrol-engined GS300, but £9145 less than the better-equipped GS430.
Its 3.5-litre V6 engine is matched to an electric motor to provide a combined power output of 341bhp, 96bhp more than the 3.0-litre V6 GS300 and 62bhp more than the 4.3-litre V8 GS430.
The GS450h is the fastest and most economical model in the range. It takes 5.9sec to accelerate from 0-62mph, which is 1.3sec faster than the GS300 and a 0.2sec swifter than the GS430.
Fuel consumption on the combined cycle is 35.8mph, which outstrips the GS300 by seven mpg and betters the GS430 by 11mpg.
The GS450h slots into the 21% company car tax band, which is up to 14 groups lower than its siblings. Despite its higher list price, the hybrid gives lower tax bills as a result - a higher-rate payer would save around £60 a month, with a payment of £265 on the entry-level model.
