Smart launches US assault

The Smart brand is about to hit America

Smart will be launched in the US in early 2008, according to owners DaimlerChrysler.

After the Roadster, Forfour supermini and a future compact off-roader project were all canned, the future of the entire Smart marque looked very much in the balance.

The announcement that Smart will go on sale in the US with the next-generation version of the Fortwo shows that DaimlerChrysler is still committed to the range.

While the new Fortwo goes on sale in the US in 2008, European showrooms are expected to have the car by the middle of next year.
