Driving games megatest - Our verdict

04 December 2009
Our verdict: the winner

Forza 3
Microsoft Xbox from £34.99

Jump into the Forza 3 driving seat and just about everyone will be able to hit the track with all cylinders firing. Switching on the driver aids and turning off the damage will keep even the greenest of rookies on track, while dialling up the difficulty levels will create a challenging drive for the most experienced of virtual racers.

The choice of more than 300 cars will impress most, too – as will the in-depth and virtually endless amount of car modifications and tweaks that are available. Even the 12 tracks can be broken down into a total of nearly 50 different layouts.

Handling varies too, so you'll need to adjust your driving style to suit the car you're driving – just like in the real world. You'll even get ruled out or handicapped if you cause an accident. The cockpit view has also taken a big step forward than in Forza 2.

When it comes to opponents, the computer is an able and eager adversary, but there's a whole world wide web of online gamers just waiting to take up the challenge when you're ready to go public.

A worthy winner, Forza 3 takes the chequered flag in our driving games megatest for its accessibility to all levels of players and overall high-quality gaming.
