Kia considers supermini-based SUV

Kia has plans to add a supermini-based SUV to its line-up within the next four years with the new car a possible replacement for the Venga MPV.

'We are looking very closely at the Nissan Juke, which is part of a very interesting segment and one that would suit Kia very well,' said Benny Oeyen, Kia's vice-president for marketing and product planning.

Talking about the company's supermini-based product range, Oeyen said he could see one of its cars the Rio, Soul, or Venga going more in the direction of the Juke

He predicted that any new car could be ready within three years if discussions were positive.

Oeyen told What Car? at the Paris motor show that he felt the new model would be a good fit in the Kia range.

'I personally think there is room. We enjoy a good reputation with SUVs with the Sorento and Sportage so I think we can capitalise on that with a smaller SUV.'

While the Nissan Juke-rivalling car would most probably appeal to those never intending to venture off-road, an all-wheel-drive model is likely, according to Oeyen.
