Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
The powertrain consists of a 117bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine, two 60KW electric motors and a 70KW generator.
Its petrol engine drives the front wheels, while the front- and rear-mounted electric motors provide the Outlander with permanent four-wheel drive.
The batteries can be charged in four hours using a domestic socket, with a fast-charge option giving 80% in 30 minutes. Regenerative braking is also used to charge the battery pack and can be adjusted using steering wheel-mounted paddles.
The Outlander PHEV emits 44g/km of CO2, with average economy of 149mpg. It can travel 32 miles on electric power alone, while the combined petrol-electric range is 557 miles.
Setting it apart from the standard car, the PHEV gets a bespoke front grille, LED tail-lights and 18-inch alloys.
Boot space is 463 litres – just 14 litres less than that of its conventionally powered sibling.
Prices will be revealed closer to the on-sale date – when it will also be announced if it qualifies for the Government's £5000 grant. We expect the Outlander PHEV to start from around £36,000.
