New Honda Accord at Geneva motor show
The saloon and Tourer both have a new look inside and out, as well as improved ride and handling, and lower emissions.
The most obvious changes are to how the car looks, with revisions to the grille, bumpers and headlights. Range-topping models will get xenon headlights, which incorporate active cornering lights and Honda’s High-beam support system, which automatically dips the headlights.
Inside, there are new materials used across the range, and top models get dark grey, half-leather seats and a black head-lining.
Honda also says it has improved the car’s refinement, with a series of measures that include more sound-proofing materials and thicker glass in the rear windows.
At the same time, Honda’s engineers have tweaked the suspension in a bid to improve both the car’s ride and its stability at high speed.
More efficient diesel engine
They have also revised the 2.2-litre diesel engine, improving its economy and cutting its CO2 emissions by 9g/km on manual models and 11g/km on automatics.
As a result, in the saloon, the engine averages 53.3mpg and emits 138g/km CO2 when paired with a manual gearbox – compared with 50.4mpg and 147g/km on the current model.
The CO2 emissions of the 2.0-litre petrol car (with a manual gearbox) also drop – to 159g/km – which means that the majority of the Accord range will now sit below the 160g/km Write Down Allowance threshold.
The car is due to go on sale in the UK in July, and further details of its price and specification will be announced nearer the time.
