New Honda Civic 1.6 diesel released

The Honda Civic will soon have a second diesel engine in its line-up, with a new Civic 1.6-litre i-DTEC going on sale at the beginning of 2013.

The 118bhp unit returns 78.5mpg and emits 94g/km of CO2 meaning the Civic qualifies for free road tax and is exempt from the London congestion charge.

The new diesel engine is available in all three trim levels, SE, ES and EX. The specifications are identical to those with the 2.2 i-DTEC engine, apart from the addition of bespoke 16-inch alloy wheels.

The range-topping EX also gets front and rear parking sensors, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and DAB digital radio.

Prices start at 19,400 for the SE model and rise to 21,175 for the EX, undercutting the 2.2 diesel by 900 across the range.

The 1.6-litre i-DTEC has been designed and engineered specifically for the European market, and will be built at Hondas Swindon plant alongside the Civic. The 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine will also be going into the CR-V SUV later in 2013.
