New Volvo S60 prices revealed

The new Volvo S60 will cost from 23,395, the manufacturer has announced.

Described by Volvo as a four-door coupe, the new car is designed to take on the current class-leader, the BMW 3 Series.

The range will start with the D3 ES and move up to the range-topping 36,745 T6 AWD SE Lux Geartronic Premium. In all, there are three trims and three engines to choose from.

Engines
The engines include the familiar 203bhp D5 diesel, which averages 53.3mpg in the new S60 and powers the car to 60mph in 7.8 seconds. There's also a new D3 diesel, which has 161bhp and averages 54.3mpg when paired with a manual gearbox.

The only petrol engine in the new S60 is the high-performance option, the T6. This 300bhp 3.0-litre six-cylinder unit takes the S60 from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds, but averages just 28.5mpg.

Equipment
Standard across the range are climate and cruise controls, alloy wheels, and leather trim on the steering wheel and gear lever.

Upgrade from entry-level ES to SE, which starts at 25,295, and you get smarter trim, an upgraded stereo and larger alloy wheels.

The range-topping SE Lux adds an electrically adjustable drivers seat, leather-faced upholstery and active bending headlights.

In addition, owners can upgrade the top two trims with a Premium Pack that includes a DAB radio, sat-nav and a multimedia audio system.

Safety
The standard safety systems include stability control and the City Safety system first seen on the XC60 Crossover, but among the options is Volvos Pedestrian Detection system with Full Auto Brake.

This works by taking information from a radar unit behind the front grille and a camera in front of the rear-view mirror to detect how far away it is from objects in front. In an emergency, the driver receives audible and visual warnings of a possible collision; and, if there is no reaction, full braking power is automatically applied. Using this system, Volvo says that the car can automatically avoid a collision with a pedestrian at speeds of up to 21mph.

Combined with Adaptive Cruise Control and Queue Assist, this system is available as an option across the range for 1350.

The new car is available to order now, with first deliveries in August.
