From hot hatches to £100k supercars, this class covers it all. Thankfully, you don't have to have money to burn to have fun, because the Skoda Octavia vRS pushes the Porsche 911 and Cayman seriously hard for the laurels here.

Scores for the Aston Martin DB9 aren't bad, but life with the stunner is far from perfect.

The best: Porsche 911
Spencer Moore
'Having owned five other 911s, I'm really amazed by the level of refinement that has been achieved with this model. With the active suspension in 'normal' mode, it is impressively refined and isn't that different from my everyday car, a BMW 530xd.

'It's brilliant to drive, too. The steering is accurate and has great feedback, with typical, lively 911 handling – it's a real joy to drive.

'Overall, I couldn't recommend this car more highly.'

The worst: Aston Martin DB9
Beth Shak
'I had a six-speed Porsche 911 Turbo convertible; it had no problems and
I loved it. I traded it in on a whim for the Aston Martin DB9. However, the car immediately had a stink from the clutch and was overheating. I insisted the dealership replace the clutch. Is it a very temperamental car? I'm really regretting the trade-in – I'm starting to smell the stink again when I'm in stop-start traffic.'
