  • 160,000 cars affected with ABS problem
  • Subaru also recalling Legacy model

Peugeot 307

Peugeot and Citroen are recalling more than 160,000 307 and C4 small family cars because of a problem that could cause a fire in the engine compartment.

Peugeot has found that in 151,410 of its 307 models the repeated entry of salt water into the anti-lock braking system could cause a short circuit, while sister company Citroen has discovered 12,220 C4s could be affected in the same way.

The short circuit could lead to a fire breaking out in the engine compartments of the cars.

The manufacturers will perform checks on all affected models brought back to workshops by their owners and carry out repairs free of charge. Peugeot hasn't provided build dates or VIN numbers for affected cars, but concerned owners can call the company on 024 7688 4000 for more information.

The VIN numbers of affected Citroens range from VF7******74144020 to VF7******74321169.

Meanwhile, Subaru wants to look over 1910 Legacy saloon and estates because of problems with the rear brake caliper. In some circumstances a bolt may rub against the rear stabiliser, creating a leak and resulting in reduced braking performance.

The manufacturer has not provided build dates or VIN details but Subaru customer care can be contacted on 0121 557 2112.
