Subaru has hinted it could build a convertible version of the forthcoming BRZ Coupe.

The BRZ Coupe will be unveiled at the Tokyo motor show in December. It's a front-engined, rear-wheel-drive sports car co-developed with Toyota and set to go on sale next summer.

While Subaru insiders didn't confirm they will make a convertible version of the car, they did concede that the BRZ has been 'engineered from the start to work as a convertible.'

Toyota wouldn't comment on a drop-top variant of its version, currently named the FT-86.

Ahead of the BRZ going on sale, Subaru will launch its XV crossover, a car that it's pitching against the Nissan Qashqai.

A new Subaru Impreza is also due next year, and while no dates have been confirmed, we'd expect the car to go on sale in the autumn.
