Tesla reveals Model X SUV

  • New seven-seat electric SUV
  • Range of 270 miles on single charge
  • 0-60mph in just 4.4 seconds
This is the Tesla Model X – a new fully electric seven-seat SUV with top-hinged doors and Porsche-rivalling acceleration.

The Model X blasts from 0-60mph in just 4.4 seconds and will go on sale by the end of 2013.

The new Tesla is based on the same platform as the company's Model S saloon, and shares around 60% of its components.

Tesla says the Model X will have a range of 210 miles with a 60kWh battery and 270 miles with an 85kWh unit.

The new car comes with a pair of ‘Falcon wing’ doors, which open outwards and upwards to allow easy access to the rear seats. Front and rear luggage space is also provided for added practicality.

Power is delivered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, which shifts power to where the traction is needed most to aid cornering.

The Model X will cost from around $50,000-$90,000 (£32,000-£57,000) when low-scale production starts in America at the end of 2013, with full production commencing in 2014.
