Tokyo motor show 2011 - Subaru BRZ

29 November 2011
This is the Subaru BRZ, the car maker's all-new sports car, which finally made its debut at the Tokyo motor show today.

The new rear-drive 2 + 2 coupe has been jointly developed with the new Toyota GT 86, so is virtually identical apart from a different grille and some interior details.

This means the BRZ is powered by the same 197bhp 2.0-litre flat-four engine, going through either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Like the Toyota, Subaru is promising back-to-basics driving thrills for the BRZ. Subaru has yet to confirm UK spec, but is aiming for a starting price of between £25,000 and £28,000 when the BRZ goes on sale in June 2012.

However, there’s no word yet on whether Subaru will be creating a more powerful BRZ, as previewed by the STi concept that was shown at the LA motor show earlier this month.

If that does make production it will have a turbocharged version of the 2.0-litre engine, producing around 300bhp.
