Family cars don't come any better than this. It's great to drive, smooth and comfortable to travel in, and has loads of space.
With so many Mondeos likely to be bought with company money and pounded up and down the country's motorway network, good fuel consumption and low company car tax liability are vitally important, so the result is that we prefer the punchy and frugal diesel-powered versions.
The pick of the range is the 2.0 TDCi 140, which feels perfectly suited to the car. By comparison, the smaller petrol engines seem to struggle to shift the car, although the turbocharged 2.5-litre unit does give very impressive performance, albeit with high buying and owning costs.
Trim-wise, you're best off sticking with lower trims, such as Zetec or Edge, which give you all the most important bits of kit as standard.
