For The engine puts out CO2 emissions of less than 120g/km, which will keep road tax down. Plus, the Honda Jazz 1.2 S is the cheapest Jazz.

Against This basic model doesn’t have two-way steering adjustment, and S trim has no air-conditioning, either. The 1.2-litre engine isn’t terribly punchy.

That price of the Honda Jazz 1.2 S may look attractive, but there are too many important features missing for us to recommend this model. Spend a bit more to get something much better.

Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

Buyers have the choice of petrol or petrol-electric hybrid versions. Both the 1.2 and the 1.3 (badged 1.4) petrols offer decent driveability, but we prefer the larger, stronger of the two.

Aided by its electric motor, the hybrid is the most powerful Jazz, although performance is hampered by its automatic gearbox.

All versions can top 50mpg, but for maximum economy, check out the hybrid – it can manage more than 60mpg. That said, it’s far more expensive than many more economical diesel superminis, so it’s tough to recommend.

Many buyers will want an automatic gearbox, and that’s available in the form of a continuously variable transmission. It’s standard on the hybrid model and an option on the 1.3-litre versions.

While the Jazz isn’t as good as other superminis, it should be very reliable. It’s also more practical than most rivals, with particularly clever boot and rear seating set-ups.
