i purchased this car just under 2 years ago when i traded my audi 80 with 226k on the clock in. I was a little unsure at first as this is the six pot version and expected it to be a thirsty beast. What can i say this car is an absolute joy to drive it is slighty heavy on fuel especially round town but can easily get 500 miles on a good run the cabin is spacious and the instruments are easily accessable it comes with all the usual se refinements ie electric rear/front windows electric mirrors rear/front fogs cd multi-changer bose system stereo etc etc the car has never failed an mot and is regularly serviced the car now has 103k and has had to have the usual worn out parts replaced ie brake discs and front suspension arms other than that this car is as solid as a rock and if i can get anywhere near the mileage that my audi 80 did then i will be more than happy everything is as new and this car still looks as good as it did when it first rolled of the production line if your looking for a car that is well built reliable and smooth to drive this is the car for you
I use the whatcar review service (specifically readers review) extensively and thought its time to submit my own. I bought this car (2000 X reg) about 3 years ago with just 29K miles on the clock. I had opted out of a company car scheme and needed something executive and comfortable for all the motorway driving that I do. The main thing that I can say about this is 'Comfort' The suspension handles minor road blemishes very nicely and perferct for driving around town. On the motorway its very smooth indeed, I have now done 61K and the only money spent is on regular maintenance. The cabin has a very executive feel and built to Audi's solid standards. The 6 CD sound system is one of the best in its class (BMW!!) It averages 32+ on the long journeys and around 31 in town, this could have been better but not a major complain. Its quick from a standing start but the gear ratios are low meaning you have to change quickly to gain momentum.Serving is cheap (I don't use dealers)and the last one was done for under £100!!!
The only criticism I have is the handeling, the body roll is quiet high at bends specially at speed. however this has been compensated by a smooth and comfy ride. Overall a great car and recommended to everyone.
I bought this car from a main Audi dealer in North London when it had just 2000 miles on the clock. It was registered in 2001. The dealer handover was fantastic but they failed to deliver some added features promised during the handover. Eventually they offered to fit the arm rest.
The last major service by a main Audi dealer in Romford, Essex, was a rip-off. The original estimate for brakes, servicing etc was about £1000 but the bill came in at over £2000, and there was a nasty dint in one door.
At that time I was then leaving for Australia. I left the car with them to repair. Due to the low resale value, I decided to get the car shipped out to Australia. When it arrived I found that the new door panel was a completely different shade... nothing I could do about that.
Now the car is getting on, I need lots done to it and may have to sell it. I don't feel it's worth spending $3500 getting the cam belt, brakes, suspension etc fixed.
Overall, it's a really enjoyable car and very economical.
The biggest let-down was the Audi dealerships in the UK. They were real rip-off merchants which truly let down a real quality car.
Overall, the performance is excellent but now the car is getting on.
I used to hate Audis but after being offered this one at a resonable price I now love them.
I've had it for year and a half and have not had too many problems with it. It has had a new battery, immobiliser coil, brakes, tyres and an exhaust, but taking its age (12) and mileage (146,000) into account, I don't think it's bad!
It has never failed an MoT and it has never missed a service. It's a very reliable car that sticks to the road like glue. Bodywise it's in tip-top condition with no blemishes. It certainly looks newer than it is.
It's lovely to drive and quite nippy too, although at over 100mph and it is a bit of a bone-shaker.
Hopefully there are plenty more miles in this car and I would certainly recommend this car to anyone.
