I have had this car for just over a month after having my previous A4 1.9 TDi for four years.
I wasn't too pleased initially as the wind noise at 70mph was very noticeable. Much of the noise was coming through the heating system and it gets to a point that when I'm on hands-free I have to switch the fan off to stop the air noise. I wrote to Audi and they have responded by saying that the reason why the wind noise is greater than my old car is due to my new one having a bigger engine. All I can say is I am glad I didn't get a 3.0 as I wouldn't be able to hear the radio on full volume!
The car overall is a not bad and I must say it's very, very quick for a diesel. The only thing that lets it down is the cabin noise.
I am keen to get in touch with Peter Lewis who wrote an Audi review on 27/5/07.
We too have a fault with the auto gearbox. Our car is an 03 reg and so it's out of warranty. We have had a bill for £1200 six months ago and another gearbox fault has just been diagnosed. They want to charge £1979 plus VAT for this and warn us that the car may still need a new gearbox.
We managed to get Audi UK to pay half of the last repairs, but like you, Peter, we have heard this is a recognised fault. Can you offer any advice?
I cannot understand people reveiwing an RS4 in this section when they don't own one!
I do own one, mine is the last of them, (May 2007) 07-plate.
The drive is fantastic - on A- and B-roads, it's the quickest car I have ever driven (BMW M3 and M5 included). Around the twisty stuff, the car is on rails and gives you huge confidence.
Economy is very good if not hammered; I get 25-27mpg on everyday driving (I do not live in a big city, though).
I have owned many exotic expensive cars, all bought new, but this is the best overall package to date, and with limited sales in the UK (about a thousand, I think) and no more production for sure, then the car will hold up its resale value, I believe.
Overall, it's a great all-rounder, with exellent build quality - far better than BMW's.
I have an Audi A4 2.4 Automatic (tiptronic seamless!). Recently I discovered it was shuddering particularly at low speed. Audi looked at it and tells me I need a new gearbox costing €6,000 but they would pay €3000. I was told later confidentially that it was a common fault in this gearbox. I wrote to tell Audi that if it was a fault in the gearbox even though its out of warranty it was Audis problem and Audi should pay 100%. They declined. Has this happened to anyone else ? I am going to get my solicitor to request "Discovering searches" on the problem from Audi. Does anyone with same problem have any views? Thanks

I've had 6 VWs now including this one and it is a mixed bag. In no particular order the economy is poor despite the FSI badging and in town never…
Why is there so much whining about the rear sets? It's small - it's called a "mini" (hint). It didn't get any smaller after you bought it, so deal…
