    My car

Having just parted company with my beloved M3 convertible after five happy years I was at a loss to determine a suitable successor.

A chance remark by my wife about seeing the new TT coupe and liking the looks aroused my curiosity!

I drove a TT Roadster in 3.2 Quattro guise this weekend and revelled in its chassis composure, practical (accessable) performance, build quality and the somewhat subjective feel good factor the czr engenders.

The DSG gearbox was a revelation and even the most diehard manual shift affectionado such as myself would do well to give this system a whirl since its rapidity and apparently seamless operation are noteable to say the least.

Not an M3 maybe but an exciting and characterful alternative. Now an RS.... that would be very interesting indeed!

    My car

I test-drove one of these yesterday (the day it was launched) - quite an exciting ride, good power when you put your foot down, even in the higher gears. THe engine has a throaty roar and the gear box is quite short which makes for it being a drivers' car.

With the roof up it was not too noisy although carrying on a conversation with the roof down turned out to be more difficult. Watching the roof fold in was groovy - and really quite quick. The wind shield that comes up at the back with the roof down is good for keeping the wind away at high-ish speeds, too so a pretty comfortable ride.

Being the dealer's new car, it was packed with everything possible. I suspect that the lower spec without the extras might not be such good value as some other cars (eg Mazda RX-8) but all in all, a really good ride. Certainly one to test-drive.

As I don't own it, I can't rate the 'ownership' but am obliged to include a rating so please treat the rating in that light.
