    My car

This is my fifth BMW and my fourth 3 Series. It's the best so far. I was looking for a 320i but couldn't find the combination of auto box, leather trim and sunroof which I wanted. But I found it in this car so I went for it, and it's terrific. It's a 1999 model which I bought in 2003 with about 20,000 miles on the clock. I've had it for four years and done 25,000 miles. The interior with beige leather, walnut trim and Harmon Kardon stereo with 6 CD changer is superb. The only reservation is the ride; the car has sports suspension which is a little too firm on occasions for me. But mostly its OK. Reliability has been excellent, the only problem was a faulty indicator stalk which went within the warranty period. I've had it serviced, put 4 new tyres on it, a set of wiper blades, a few bulbs and that's it. Excellent car, recommended.

    My car

I have had a 03 BMW 320d 150bhp for little over a year now. It is a very nice car to drive, very comfortable with plenty of power but I am afraid I will not be getting another one.

A couple of weeks ago I was driving and, as I was accelerating in fourth gear, the car started to over rev and wouldn't stop. It eventually cut out by itself.

The turbo had taken in oil from the sump which led to the engine seizing. BMW told me it would need a new engine costing £10,000 and I have recently found out that many BMWs end up this way.

BMW has done nothing to fix it.

    My car

My first 3 Series was a brand new 318ise manual and my present one is a secondhand main dealer one owner 320ise auto with 19k on the clock.

The 318i proved very unreliable and I nearly didn't buy another except a dealer offered a good trade in against the 320iSE auto.

The 320ise auto was great until it hit 65k, then the problems started: alternator, brakes, auto gearbox at £2.5k to replace, engine management light on due to misfires. It goes on and on and at 120k miles I just want to get rid of it.

Such a shame, because it looks great in dark blue with beige leather and just makes you want to get in and drive it.

However, this car is not recommended for those without deep pockets.

    My car

My son purchased this car 1yr ago with 72000 mils on the clock. It has just reached 78000 and the cylinder head has gone. During the last few days I have visited our local BMW dealer to greated with the the words of That Part all ways goes. I have spent a few hours on the phone to various engine replacement firms all on the internet to get prices, on one occasion I spent 1/2hr being told how they all go and between what cylinders and how it does not show due to a certain plastic pipe goes etc etc, and I have just done 4 of that model this month. The long and the short of all this is that all BMW engines appear to be suspect to cylinder head failure.I did find one firm in Manchester that was £150.00 cheaper than the rest so good hunting.
