My car has done about 15,000 miles build quality and reliability are good as you would expect and good straight line performance with the 170bhp diesel.
However, BE WARNED. These cars have run flat tyres which cause handling issues on anything but a smooth road and particularly where there have been repairs made to the surface ie tramlines. Make sure you have a test drive and are happy with this compromise.
Bought a 56 plate via an internet broker, Dealdrivers and collected the car from Vines BMW (Gatwick) superb service and well handled through out with a saving that my local BMW dealers could not match. A difficult choice initially between the Audi A4 Avant 2 TDI (170) Quattro Spec Edition but as previously ran a Golf TDI (130) i fancied a change from the VAG group cars and my wife has the Golf 2.0 TDI (140). A very well built car with a simple and well laid out cab, early days yet as i have had the car only just over 2 months and done 5,000 miles but the engine is becoming better by the mile and i have had many admiring glances and comments. Distintive in comparison to the Audi which is now a very everyday, the run flat tyres give it quite a harsh ride and this is taking some getting used to but great grip. I have yet to have the car serviced which will be interesting and possibly quite expensive. The car has a lot to live up to as the Golf was cheap to run and own over the last 4 years and 90,000 but first impressions are very good. Pleased i went for the leather heated seats, auto wipers and lights, phone kit and especially the privacy glass which makes the car look great and is good for my young daughter in the back.
Brought an 03 model just couple of months ago. This is my 33rd car (sad really) in 26 years of motoring and I think I've found the right car at last. Great torque through the gears, unbelievable economy (averaging 54mpg)and quality build. Couple of electrical niggles with suspect Amplifier, common problem in 3 series suggest change to roof aerial. Not as comfortable as the V70 I previously had and a stiffer suspension but unbeatable in most other respects. Great drivers car. I'm sold.
Recently purchaased this car to replace the beloved RX8. As yet I am not missing the RX too much due to the great hadling and fantastic build quality the BMW is offering. Although not quick, the 320 is smooth, and I have the auto box with steptronic (I would now recomend this to anyone as it gives the best of both Worlds, and allows my Wife not to worry about gears/stalling etc). I really like the firm ride of the Msport, and my car has 11k without a single rattle or squeak! Although petrol quiter, should have gone for diesel. Getting circa 30mpg.
