I just had this car on a 4 day test and I think it is really competent, comfortable, nimble and most of all REALY economical. I drove about 225 motorway miles with a light foot and not exceeding 70mph, and returned an astonishing 64mpg. Even with 4 people on board with a mix of dual carriageway and country roads I was still doing 60+mpg.
The handling and ride are first class with no tram-lining as others have reported, the stereo is pretty decent and the only thing that I would grumble about is the lack of storage. Other than that, spot on. I look forward to receiving mine in a few weeks.
Just changed a passat 20 SE TDI for this 3 series touring, having owned a saloon version of the E90 range 2 years ago. The car is as expected, smooth, refined etc but I am a little bit concerned that the 60 MPG that is supposed to be achievable according to BMW seems incredibly optimistic. I have a very light foot, fully utilise the stop start technology and around town I have averaged 38MPG/47mpg on a run at 65 MPH!
Economy and emissions were the key reason for changing from a 2006 Passat that was delivering similar economy? Be careful if this is your motivation for changing, I hope the engine will loosen up and deliver its brochures promises shortly.
I have recently purchased this car and have had loads of options fitted to it. Reading most reviews i was worried about the optional 18" alloys but after driving the car i cant see what the fuss is about it handles better than most cars on the road and the ride quality is superb. The six cylinder engine is silky smooth and quiet but it does lack torue in 1st and 2nd gear. I have the optional sat nav with i drive which is a doddle to use. I purchased this car from WILLIAMS BMW ROCHDALE their service is fantastic and nothing is to much trouble and will definitly use again although thay are 110 miles away.
Changed from Audi A3 SE last week, so glad I did! What a car, quiet, smooth and a totally different class from the Audi. The suspension is so much better, firm at times but so,so much better than the bone shaker A3. I feel sorry for the Owners of the A3 sport, that has even harder suspension. The car has exceeded my expectations. I had read all the previous reviews before I picked this model and don't understand the complaints, the stereo is fine and as yet - no tramlining. Fuel consumption is about the same as the smaller A3 - where's the catch?
