    My car

Just an update to the review I wrote in August 2007! At the time, the car had done 104k with a fair bit of expense & I was unsure whether to keep it......I kept it! As of tonight has now done exactly 158k miles. Last MOT needed the flexible section of exhaust replaced (£400), new discs & pads, new front shocks + a few other bits. Also had the dreaded swirl flaps removed & blanked off earlier this year, approx. £200. I got the car at 65k miles with loads of paperwork & full history - no mention of turbo replacement anywhere so I'm guessing it's the original.....had the crankcase breather done & let it tickover after a run so we'll see what happens! Will post again if I still have her at say 180k! Wish me luck......

    My car

My mum purchased a 520i touring in February 2008.

It is fully loaded in black with black leather interior on a 52 plate, and looks amazing and not at all dated.

The engine is excellent and if you put your foot down this thing flies. But fuel economy is terrible. She lives in Cornwall which is quite hilly so she averages only 26mpg. This is shocking but also realistic. It's a big car with a two litre engine. I guess if she was in flat old London she might get 31mpg.

The interior is a really nice place to be. I am 6 foot 2 and have loads of head and leg room, and the seats are wide and really supportive. One also sits up high which is nice as I hate feeling like I am in a Go Kart! The panels are really well laid out and you feel like evrything is so well srewed together and thought out.

Thde car was purchased with 98K on the clock and cost only 4.5K. This is a bargain for a car of this quality and I pray it does not go wrong as it will cost mum a fortune if this happens. Like all second hand cars if they don't break tou smile a smug smile, and if they do you kick yourself.

    My car

Had my Year 2000 523i Touring Auto for nearly two years and can saftly say its been the best car I have ever had. (Previous Cars Volvo V70 T5, Mazda 3, BMW 318i and Range Rover) The ride is smooth thanks to the air suspension, the cabin is quiet (odd squeek) and roomy. The rear with the seats down will take a 3 seater sofa from Ikea, and with seats up still has plenty of room. Leg room in rear is the best I have seen, head room is good too. On trips I have been getting 36 MPG and around town 23 MPG. The Auto box is so smooth you have a job to hear it change gear and the sports mode turns the car into a real sprinter. Down sides !! well touch wood I have had none yet, the mileage shows 89000 and the car still drives like new.
