    My car

It was this, a run-out 520 m sport business edition automatic or a Volvo V70 SE lux auto. The V70 was a lot better than I expected, very comfortable with lots of bells and whistles, but the Bee Emm was the nicer place to spend time in. The ride was smoother, quieter and the engine far more responsive.

My wife has problems with the passenger seat. It got sorted by a lumbar support which cost £4.99, but it looks so uncool.....

I am a musician so listening to music that sounds right is important on a long journey. The sound is very satisfactory, a little thick in the bass, but nice clean top and middle. The CD changer is a little annoying, resetting itself to play the current disc over and over unless you tell it to play them all.

The sat nav is a bit naff on the business edition, but it works. No jokey voices a la tom tom, just a posh English lady telling you to prepayah to tarn left.

But how many cars do you get a twinge of regret with after driving 250 miles on Scottish roads because you're nearly there? For me that's a first.

    My car

65,000 miles in 2 years and still runs well. Performance is all you really need in the real world returning 42 mpg which is pretty good considering how quick it can be. I do mainly longer journeys which is why the front tyres are only over half worn. Rear tyres lasted well but be warned, traction in anything other than in the dry is poor.... if it snows forget the car and walk. Running costs have been low..... indicator shows front and rear brakes still have 20,000 miles remaining.... interior is pretty dull and complex climate control not worth specifying on lower models. All in all a great everyday car with the "Q" factor in SE trim.... it is a shame that the comapny car tax is so high..... I will go for the great all rounder next time... 520d with a few extras....

    My car

Have had a 525d SE touring since May 05, acquired brand new as a company car. Overall it is a fairly decent car but has had shocking reliability - e.g. 1) 40k miles with FSH with local BMW dealer but failed MOT due to suspension issues, 2) level control system failed at 50k miles (£500+ to repair), 3) run flat tyres wear fast and are expensive to replace, 4) iDrive system keeps reporting faults/punctures, which are largely false, 5) boot struts needed replacing under warranty as leaked, 6) variable servicing system is crackers - if you stuck to what it says, you'd be at your local dealer practically monthly. GOODS: Car looks good, performance is good, image is strong, comfortable family car. POOR: equipment miserly, fuel economy poor, not much interior space for such a big car, reliability shocking, BMW dealer is painful (but think they're God's gift), lots of this car now on the road due to favourable company car tax of 520d. This is definitely my last BMW for a while (I previously had 320d SE Touring, which had its turbo blow at 1yr/20k miles).
