I have owned and driven this car for 16 months and sixteen thousand miles. It takes time to get used to everything but I wouldn't change it for any other vehicle on the road at the moment.
In particular, I find the much-maligned i-Drive easy to use, and that combined with the voice controls and display screens front and rear have made the car a pleasure for both leisure and business purposes.
It is my first diesel and it took me a while to learn to wait half a second for the car to move after I pressed the accelerator, but the acceleration and speed after that are great. Equpiment levels are excellent and I use the BMW rear entertainment package to keep the children happy on long journeys either watching television or DVDs.
It would have been useful if my version had Bluetooth for the phone. The Dynamic Drive and other safety systems are highly competent and enable passenger comfort to be maintained at high speed in cornering situations. It costs and arm and a leg though!
This is the best introduction to driving a diesel car that one can have.
The surge of power at low revs is breathtaking and petrol-driving passengers are guaranteed to be astonished.
One frequently critised area is the i-Drive. I can only assume that the criticism arises because most reviewers do not get the chance to spend a few weeks with the car.
After that time, it is second nature to operate nearly all of the many and varied features. My only criticism is the comlexity of turning off the RDS traffic notices when DVD or TV is in use.
