The Kalos is a great little car. Running costs are reasonable, and insurance is very cheap.
It never quite seems to have the power quoted (93bhp) and overtaking on the motorway involves a bit of gear-changing. The equipment is good, with a CD player, ABS, air-conditioning and central locking.
There is plenty of space in the front for the largest of drivers, and rear space is relatively good, too. The boot is suprisingly big, considering the overall dimensions of the car. The ride is compliant, but it does lean a lot in corners and the seats don't offer a great deal of lateral support to keep you in place when cornering.
There is plenty of cheap looking plastic around the interior, but the dash is pleasant to look at and looks quite modern. I'd say that it feels like driving an early Vauxhall Corsa. Mine has been totally reliable over the 20,000 miles I've driven in it. I'd say it's a car you buy and keep for years - in that way you offset the crippling depreciation!
The car is really good, mainly for stop-start traffic in town. It is large enough to carry a weekly shop and a small family.
The ride is calm and relatively soft. It has no sporty features and awards, just comfort. Avoid motorways, though!
This car is one of those that you wouldn't expect to be such a laugh.
With its extraordinary spec (especially on the 1.4 sport 3dr) such as leather, air-con and a great cd player it really makes the stop-start commute fun(ish).
It is large enough to carry a weekly shop (but as in many small cars, you'll have to fold the seats down)
Although it won't win any awards for its driving, its soft ride and refined movement suits our slow moving roads. We don't need sporty handiling, just comfort.
