This car makes you feel as good as the 9 year-olds who point & smile at you as you drive past them! Its just fab! I can definitely lip read the phrase "what's that car?" after owning one of these for 6 months! You certainly get noticed! It handles like a dream & as other owner reviews had said ignore the "get's blown about a lot" nonsense in the official review ... it doesn't, roof up or down! There's plenty of space in it (unless you put the roof down!) compared to other two seater convertibles! Of which I've owned a few! The only thing I would add ... a six speed gearbox! Just to keep the rev's down when your on the motorway! Or perhaps I should slow down a bit ...? Just had my first service which was only a couple of hindered pounds & very painless. I used "Kinghams of Croydon" who were very professional & courteous, they even collected the car from my work & delivered it back at no extra charge! If this carries on I will definitely consider another Copen in 3 years or hopefully the OFC-1 if its in production by then, so long as it has a 1.3 engine! Join the happy few & buy a Copen! They're great!

    My car

After my 66th birthday (October 2007), I decided that 'a fun car' was a 'now or never' decision. After reading What Car? reviews, I tried some 'sporty' cars. After driving a Copen, I felt it was not for me - 6'2", 14+ stone - totally useless as a means of motorised transport. Yet, when I got home, I realised that I'd fallen in love with it. So I bought a scarlet 1.3 from a Lancashire dealer who cut his profit for improved cash-flow! 6 months on, I still love my Little Red Rooster/Roadster! However, I did have serious battery problems. A low mileage driver, the battery went flat, repeatedly. After some initial hesitation, both Daihatsu UK and my local dealer replaced the battery - which, I suspect, was a faulty one. That problem explains why I can't give the Copen a 5-star rating, either 'overall' or 'for quality...' But I disagree with What Car's review about driving 'topless' being a bit uncomfortable. About 6 weeks ago, on a lovely summery day, I drove from home to Hull (180 miles) with the top down all the way. It was comfortable and exhilarating - though I was very sunburned at the end of the journey (so beware!) Driving a Copen, whether to Sainsbury's or to Hull, is great. It does handle like a go-cart - but with greater comfort!

    My car

I’m writing this as when I was looking at buying a Copen last year there wasn’t much info out there. For ages I was put off by how small the engine was but gave it consideration when the 1.3 was launched. Last year the wait time for the new cars was several months so I gave the 0.7 a go. I loved it, it only took a few minutes to get used to the different driving position (My last car was a golf) so, on the advice of a Formula Ford driver ("don't worry it's Daihatsu it will last forever") I bought one and it's superb. There are the jokes about Noddy and roller skate but everyone eventually falls for it.

Everything on it is really reliable. Fuel consumption is amazing. If you park on the street it fits in spaces no other car does. It does require an oil change every three months but these are really cheap. When the roof is down there isn't much boot space but when it's up you can easily fit a week’s food shopping in there. If you are worried about space, turn up to your test drive with all the bags you normally travel with. You can't access the boot through the main cabin like almost all other cars (The button to pop the boot is in a lockable glove box).so it feels more secure leaving my laptop in this boot than any other.

The best thing about this car, it makes people smile. Any journey you make so many people smile at you, you are smiling when you arrive.
