By my reckoning i've just bought the car bargain of the year!! How so? Here goes..... 17inch alloys, front fogs,aircon,cd/mp3 player, bluetooth, sports seats and wheel, side skirts and rear spoiler, chrome exhaust, six speed gearbox, electric and heated wing mirrors, asr and hillholder(very neat function),trip computer, remote central locking etc.etc....all standard!! Plus you get to drive around in the most stylish small car there is, all for £10,500!!
Of course there are the usual italian flaws such as the awkward footrest and the stereo unit which does'nt sit flush with the dashboard but i can live with that quite happily. The 16v 1.4 is refined and economical, averaging 40mpg around town and beyond. Performance is reasonable,it's no slug but lacks a bit of torque through the lower gears.
Overall i'm delighted with my first fiat, really hope it does'nt fall apart like others but it seems well screwed together. I believe fiat have cracked it with this little beauty!!
I have driven 10 Uno/Puntos over the past 20yrs and have found them great cars to drive. However, I am extremely disappointed with the new model which I purchased in September. They have managed to produce a car which is much larger outside but less roomy inside. It was often remarked by passengers in the old models how well the space inside was used, both in terms of room for them and storage space. The new model has less room for passengers and almost no storage space. Even the glove box and door pockets are drastically reduced as is the boot. The front of the interior is dominated by this massive useless dashboard. As other reviewers have noted the drivers view to the right is obstructed by the large pillar. The car seems heavy and in spite of a larger 1.4 engine than I have had previously it is very sluggish. Finally the seating which was so comfortable has been made uncomfortable! Why they have put the designer's name on the side I can't imagine! Unless the design is changed I shall not be buying a Fiat in future.
I have the 1300 multijet 90 and there is a huge amount of turbo lag until the engine is spinning at more than 2000. This makes setting off at busy roundabouts to be a dangerous proposition.
The suspension is noisy at the front and i note what other people have said about a faulty steering rack, maybe mine too.
The service department is less than helpful at my local dealer and this is fairly typical of my FIAT expereince so far and it would mean that I cannot recomend the car
having written a previous report on the site, thought i would give an update on my car.having got the car back the faults in car are gone,no whining from the engine,no squeeling from the brakes and no intermitten electrical niggles all is well mechanically my dealer is even going to replace the front foglights when i have the time.i have done over 10k miles now with the engine truly run in the car is even faster now than when new the smile is back on my face.but the paint work is really thin the bonnet is covered in stonechips respray i think???.cant wait for the abarth version out next summer my name will be at the top the list
Order a brochure, find your nearest dealer or book a test drive
