USED Ford Galaxy MPV (06 - )

My car

Have had 3 previous Galaxys, and loved all of them (1 petrol and 2 diesels). The new car is a great disappointment, as is the dealership I bought it from (got the car for £2k less than anywhere else offered but was it worth the hassle?). Lots of niggles but major problem is that it vibrates like mad at 2k revs. Dealership we bought it from 'couldn't find a fault' - when we eventually took it to our previous dealership (love them to pieces) they immediately identified problems with the dual mass flywheel so the car is off the road next week for gear box out and probably a new clutch. It's done 6k and we've had it 4 months. Next problems to solve are a leak into the driver's footwell, headlights which seems to have variable power, 2 doors which don't shut properly and the replacement of damaged rear window trims (damaged on delivery and selling dealer 'forgot to order' the replacements). Sadly this is one Galaxy which I'm struggling to love!

My car

The Ford Galaxy is a good towcar for a 1696kg. The automatic gearbox works well while towing and really makes it easy to drive with caravan. With two persons in the car and some luggage on a level road you will run in 6th gear well over 80mph. The car is stable and you will normally not experience influence from the caravan. Acceleration is quite good, but the frontwheels can slip a little on wet roads from standstill, especially on a 30% incline hill position. Braking works well. I have not measured fuelecononomy, but expect it to be around 32mpg. The tank holds 70 liters, but if you press the metal clip in the filler hose, you can utilise the expansion volume as well, up to 14 liters extra. So you can drive all day without refueling. The car is a very good long distance cruiser with high seating position, armrest, good firm seats and a reasonable noiselevel in 6th gear. Driving with to people there is space for two bicycles in the rear. We use the Thule indoor bike rack which is excellent. I have not tried to drive with full load in car and caravan, but expect that it wil have a rather serious impact on performance. Also it seems from other peoples experience, that it decreases the risk of failure in the automatic gearbox

My car

I own/drive a 2.0TDCI special edition bought at excellent price 10 months ago. I've had no problems to date and done 15,000 miles. It drives like a dream and does as it says on the tin.

I've previously owned the 1999 2.8 four-wheel-drive. I've had it for eight years and loved it but this model is different class. 46mpg and carries everything you could dream off.

Have noticed that only people with problems take time to complete reviews. So on behalf of the quiet, possible majority - well done Ford for a brilliant vehicle.

Bought in preference to a Vauxhall Zafira after testing both and no regrets. The Ford Galaxy has more power, more toys - and at much less cost. Previously owned two Scenics - no contest.

My car

Bought the Galaxy new in March 2007. Although its a nice car to own & drive I found that the aftersales service from the garage (a dealership in Bury, Manchester) to be very poor.

The Galaxy had been in the garage for a few minor things.

Then the power steering pump failed after it had been in the garage for a repair to the steering. I have now had the car back one week and I have noticed that the kluncking in the steering has returned.

So I'll be off to the garage again.
