I have owned this car for five years and it is now ten years old. Bought it with quite high mileage (85,000) so was a bit concerned at first but i needn´t have been. This car has been a real workhorse for me and caused very few problems apart from the usual(wishbones, exhaust). Cheap to fix though. It now has 150,000 and still runs like a dream. Great handling for a car of this size too! Cabin seems to lack afew creature comforts, no AC or CD but heh! You can´t have everything. It´s still going strong in Spain and I managed to fit most of my life into the boot and rear folding seats. Recommend to anyone wanting a used car bargain! Beware bumpers though (crack easily!)
Have had this car since '99 after buying it with 10K on the clock, ex-hire car at Trade Sales. Normally used for motorways and to leave at the airport (travel overseas a lot). Took the company car allowance and saved on car tax as I do not do high miles in UK.
Has done 41 mpg normally, serviced it myself in general. Drives well, somewhat bland but it is a Mondy!. Has saved me over £18,000 compared to a company car over 8 years so far including all costs (purchase, repairs, fuel etc). Have done 71,000 miles in 8 years or so.
Needed three significant repairs so far : Air con condenser at 50,000 (£250) and clutch at 60,000 (£400). Suprised by clutch as I never had to replace a clutch in a car I owned before and it has done mainly long trips (>30 miles each). Also replaced at 68,000 both front lower wishbones (rubber bushes debond on these, bought some cheap on e-bay for £65 the pair).
Battery, exhaust and rear tyres are still original, amazing! Front brake discs replaced at 68,000!!
It has never broken down (even the clutch got me home 180 miles when it started going). Always starts first turn.
Still drives exactly as new and can be driven hard if need be, everything still works perfect. Not worth more than £1000 now so will drive it until it has a major problem.....
Would recommend this car if you want reliable inexpensive motoring and do not care about having the latest German beast...
This is an N-reg GLX model. It has very comfortable seats, has adequate build quality, and a great engine. That's all I have to say and I wish I still had this car, because I definitely prefer it to my 1999 Ford Mondeo Verona.
1999 T reg Mondeo LX Verona. I don't like that they put very uncomfortable seats in it, the back seats don't even have headrests, and the quality of the plastics is terrible
I thought that my N reg Ford Mondeo GLX 2.0 that I used to have was a lot better - this one didn't even have a CD player as standard, so I had to go to Halfords and buy a Kenwood one for £100.
The engine is ok but sometimes when I'm going up hills the gearbox starts to make a burning smell. However, I haven't spent much of my money for new things for it and apart from the ash tray breaking, nothing has broken.
Order a brochure, find your nearest dealer or book a test drive
Owned for 1 year, as family runabout Pros good size, general build quality, powershift gearbox, good to drive, low costs Cons handling slighly…
Had this car for 90k from new. A 56 plate. In over 2,000,000 miles driven this one has broken down the most of any car I have had. DO NOT get a 2.0…
