What Car? says

5 out of 5 stars

For The Mondeo is spacious, cheap and drives well

Against It's noisy, and large-wheeled versions have an over-firm ride. Not as practical as hatch or estate

Verdict It’s cheap, well built, reliable, spacious and - best of all - superb to drive

Go for… 1.8 LX

Avoid… V6s

Ford Mondeo Saloon
  • 1. There have been problems with injectors on the TDCi turbodiesels, so check the engine runs smoothly if you test drive one
  • 2. Suspension problems are among the most frequent causes of warranty claims
  • 3. There's enough room for three adults to sit comfortably in the rear
  • 4. The boot is a good size, but the hatchback has better access and versatility than the saloon
  • 5. The driving position is spot-on for people of all shapes and sizes
