Bought this car as a pre-reg new but for 21 miles in 2005. Have now done 55000 miles. Lots to report but the overwhelming problem is the refusal of dealers to acknowledge obvious faults. This is how Hyundai manage the five year warranty - nothing gets fixed. Marc Pickersgill in Cleveland (post of 23/02/08) will suffer from the local dealer monopoly in that area. That particular dealer is a problem. Other dealers openly admit the CD players are useless and replace them (they skip and go off on CD only on one channel). Steering and suspension problems, clutch problems, dreadful fuel consumption, misfiring, light bulbs go with amazing regularity, heavy tyre wear, increasingly expensive pollen filters which are changed at every service, high servicing costs. I have tried to resolve my problems by approaching Hyundai but they won't engage. No honour, no integrity, no warranty. Is there anything I like about the car? Yes. It's quite comfortable, good luggage space due to neat folding seats, easy to park and really good brakes with and ABS which is not over-sensitive. What don't I like? Wobbles around on corners, drifts around in the wind, 38mpg, engine is so rough by the time you get to 3800rpm you simply have to change up, seat covers begining to go, heavy clutch, gear change gets very notchy in traffic, wipers , wind noise, rear door seals leak in heavy rain, weak shockers, lots of rattles, joke trip computer with the wrong units.
We bought this car because all the figures added up (it was not love at first sight!) its fuel returns combined with 96bhp & a 5 year warranty seemed too good to be true....it was! the engine while ok feels less powerful than stated if I didnt know the car I'd guess about 70bhp, the ecconomy is a major disapointment @ about 36mpg in town/motorway commuting, the dealer network is very poor ignoring any minor faults you report & showing a lack of customer care ...this alone has put me off buying from this manufacturer again. The ride of the car is ok fairly comfortable but bouncy at the rear over country roads (cue kids complaints & car sickness) on the plus side it is very refined at speed for a small car has decent visability, great seats slick easy controls & is a pleasant easy car to drive, just dont expect any fun on the twisty bits-understeer & body roll are a free gift with every Getz :-( Not a terrible car but bad enough to make me wish we'd bought something else.
Faults to date (car age 11months) 8000miles: pulls to the left (faulty tyres, pulls to right with them switched side to side-I had to find that the dealer tried three times & couldnt work it out) Management light comes on now & again along with a missfire- dealer says it is fine-no fault! Assorted creaks & rattles from the dash & rear suspension CD player skips Headlight swich failed (two dealer visits to fix) Wheel wobble at 70mph (nothing wrong according to dealer-you notice a trend yet!)
Drive the auto box car on holiday as a hire car whilst on holiday for a week. Am normally used to driving much better cars, but this is ok for such a cheap car except that it dreadfully underpowered. It struggles to do 50mph up a hill, and the brakes are dreadful - no ABS as I found out when braking coming down a steep hill. As such is it dangerous. Still it went a surprisingly long way on 20 litres of fuel.
I have had all the big toys over the years i.e. Jaguars, Granadas, Scorpios, Carltons etc. Decided that there was no point in having two "big" cars and opted to have one car which was economy minded.
After loads of research I decided to opt for a Hyundai Getz CDXi 1.1. Got an 06 plated, delivery mileage for the ridiculous price of £5,700.
I have now had the car for just over 12 months and it has been absolutely great. Superb economy (50+mpg), ultra reliable and has all of the toys you might reasonably need.
Brilliant car for around the town and my wife prefers to drive it rather than her own (always manages to leave the petrol gauge on empty however!)
Very competent on the motorway although obviously not the quickest or best for overtaking, especially with children and two adult in the vehicle.
Cracking little motor and I would recommend to anyone looking for a vehicle which delivers economy, reliability and specification.
I decided against having the car serviced where it was purchased and instead went to Ryders in Warrington. I never thought I would place the words "fantastic" and "main dealer" in the same sentence, but in this instance I have actually come across a dealership were they were polite, accommodating, efficient and actually smiled whilst dealing with you.
Brilliant car and brilliant back up from main dealers.
