This is the second 4.7 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I've owned. These vehicles suffer from sharp depreciation which makes them a great used buy. The Overland variant comes with the High Output engine that produces extra BHP and returns a 0-60 time below 7 seconds - not that you use the acceleration that often, the car is very thirsty. Driven carefully it will return 25 mpg at an average of 70 mph on the motorway. Otherwise you're looking at low 20's out of town and in town expect mid teens. Nonetheless it is a tremendously well built car and without a doubt the most reliable 4x4 that I've had. Landrover could take a leaf from Jeep's book for reliability. The spec is very high and the road handling not all that bad, particularly when combined with comfort of Jeep's seats. If youre after a bargain I'd recommend that you consider purchasing a low mileage Jeep Grand Cherokee and convert it to run on LPG.
I have been driving a Grand Cherokee V8 Ltd now for 8 years and 4 months and I have got to say that it has been so far terrific, I have covered 100000 miles so far,the V8 engine is fantastic and hardly uses any oil at all, in the time I have owned it ; I have only topped up the oil once in between services, the fuel consumption is not so good but don't exceed the speed limits and you're fine, the depreciation drop on these vehicles is unjustified because the quality of fabrication is superb, so far no suspension problems at all. The handbrake needs checking now and again !
It has been almost a year since I have bought this car and it's at 18,500 km. So far I have had two minor problems.
1.The battery of the car went off in the first week and the dealer changed it immediately. 2.The sealing of the driver's door window was faulty. It has been fixed by the dealer again. The explanantion was that this was a common problem.
Besides those, I did not have any other problems so far. I do not only drive the car in the city but at the weekends I go to skiing to a ski resort, which is around 300km away and 30km of it is the mountain road covered with ice and snow.
I had no problems. I use Pirelli Scorpion winter tires, which also add to the performance of the car on mountain roads.
I also find the car quite comfortable to drive altough no one should expect the comfort of a luxury sedan from a 4x4 off-roader.
