Right, I love this car. It's got lots of lovely little gadgets in it and the drive is a dream. I've had no problems at all except for the boot release needing repairs. Might have had something to do with the fact the rear wiper spray tube came off and sprayed water all over the electrics. . other than that not a squeak, rattle or clank! Yeah you guessed it there's a huge BUT. The service costs! The second service (if bought from new) is in excess of £700 and the fourth £800!! My husband's C-class is not even that expensive to service. I've got mine on a three year lease purchase so I have to keep up the merc servicing. Although if you speak Very nicely to your dealer they might be able to do you a deal, I did say might. . .
Great car, not so great costs. .
Please please please whatever you do, do not but a 03 A class, unless you dont mind wating at least 4 hours to start your car once you have left it sitting for at least an hour....if you fancy sitting in a car park once you have paid for the ticket then having to contact the parking attendant to state to them your car wont start!! Plus if you fancy driving down the M4 in the rain (heavy)and your windscreen wipers decide to give up, or the back windscreen wiper decides to leak water or the electirc windows decide to judder, please buy one..... also !! the driving position is uncomfy basically i do not like this car ( you may have gathered), One good thing is the space, you can fit a hell of lot in this car, which is handy once it starts. I wish i would have looked further into buying this car 2 years ago, cos if i new what i new know i would have stayed with my 96 polo !!!!
How to start this? Well, it's RUBBISH!!! I bought mine (T Reg)second hand from a garage in 2006 at 60000 miles or something. Since I owned it, there had been problems after problems. First gearbox (costed me about £800 to fix it) then came the bigger problem, there was a faulty with the ECU unit (which would probably cost about nealy 3G to fix. I took to my trusted garage to see what could be done. Luckily, they have done something with it, so it was drivable but unreliable as sometimes it would just cut off from electrical failure. Well, I broke down in the middle of the busy road on one rush hour morning. NIGHTMARE!!! Had to force to drive it for a while and then I got rid out of it. Oh! Forgot to say that I also had a problem with the sunroof and was told that I would have to fork out another £6-700. You know what I said to the garage, SOD THAT!!! So, don't be fooled, just because it's a merc!!!
I BOUGHT MY 2001 MERCEDES A140 CLASSIC 5 YEARS AGO AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY I HAVE NEVER SPENT SO MUCH MONEY ON A CAR EVER. I HAD IT FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS AND THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE ON THE SLIP ROAD OF THE MOTORWAY. SINCE THEN THE REAR WASH WIPE HAS CEASED TO FUNCTION, 3 COIL SPRINGS HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED, 1 COIL SPRING HOUSING HAS SHATTERERED AND THE MAIN BEAM/INDICATOR SWITCH IS NOW STICKING ON MAIN BEAM SO ALSO HAS TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR HAS NOW DONE 76,000 MILES AND TO BE HONEST I JUST HATE IT. SO MY ADVICE IS, IF YOU LIKE PAYING GARAGE BILLS BUY ONE, IF NOT STEER WELL CLEAR.
