    My car

I have now completed 4000 very comfortable miles in the car.

As a family car it is both practical and comfortable and eats up the miles.

When driving on my own with the auto box (CVT) and the sportier suspension it performs very well, despite not being a sports car per se. At 45mpg it is quite frugal and I see from other reports this should get closer to 50mpg with a few more miles on the clock.

I have had many positive comments, especially with the slightly different grill on the sports model and it is still rare on the road which gives it individuality.

My only slight gripe is that the centre rest should have storage underneath.

Finally, I find my dealership in Cheltenham a joy to deal with - there is none of the old fashioned Merc snootyness.

    My car

When Mercedes created this new niche, they provided me with my ideal car.

It is something that is attractive to behold, small but spacious, and comfortable and frugal to drive.

It is also a fairly rare sight on the roads, with only about 250,000 sold so far.

I think that What Car? do it a serious injustice.

    My car

The B-Class is an absolutely fantastic car. Although it seems small, it is cavernous inside, and I think that it looks incredibly stylish. There is not another car in the small car/MPV sector that can match its looks inside or out.

It is also very relaxing to drive - it is the kind of car that suits drivers who prefer comfort over sportiness, but given that it is effectively an MPV, that is ideal. The diesel engine is refined, the automatic gearbox is ridiculously smooth (it is a CVT), and the steering is reassuring, if a little airy (I think it may be drive-by-wire). The car averages 45mpg, is in the 8E insurance group and the D tax band, so is relatively frugal to run.

The things I like least are the indicator/windscreen wiper stalk, which is organised clumsily (although both of these things are automatic anyway, so it doesn't matter too much), and the central box in between the two front seats - I would like to be able to put stuff inside it, but I think that it just contains the electronics/mechanics of the handbrake. Also, I think that chrome is pretty naff, and it is not possible to have it removed.

Overall this is an ideal car for a young family or for anyone who needs a lot of space in a small package, and who appreciates comfort, style, and economy.
