    My car

Command always going wrong. Car kit always going wrong. DVD player kicks in when uninvited. Dealer never able to find the fault.

Have endured 2 call backs, one for command and other for engine. Command still bad.

Sat.Nav instructions not as good as BMW (previously owned a 2003 M3 SMG Convertible), no room for baby seats hence change.

I find the diesel engine very noisy when compared to other brands on the road.

Warning lights for oil always coming on when not required.

I find the driving seat position uncomfortable... long drives give back ache... not enough support. Never encountered this before in a car.

Electric windows (drivers side) noisy... squeeky!!!

Folding side mirrors very noisy too.

Flat battery after leaving the car for six days or more. Dealer said this is normal. Apparantly the battery is depleated due to all electrics. I questioned the two week vacation and car stored at airport.... does this mean one needs to call out recovery when returning from a vacation? The reply was yes!!!

    My car

I have had a new E320 CDi Avantgarde for six months now and so far the car has been faultless.

This follows a more unpleasent experience in an earlier new-shape E220 CDi (one of the first new-shape E-Classes in the country) which I had for two years and which was almost constantly in the garage because of a range of electrical problems, which the Mercedes dealer network seemed to have trouble tracing.

The new car with the larger engine is a different proposition from the smaller diesel and is an altogether better package. While the E220 was always refined, it could often leave you embarrased when it came to overtaking. The E320, however, is everything a Mercedes should be - very smooth, beautifully finished and very swift.

I have driven all of the obvious competition - BMW, Audi and Jaguar - but for me none come close to the blend of attributes of the Merc. Behind the wheel is just a thoroughly enjoyable and very peaceful place to be.

    I would thoroughly recommend it.

    My car

After 20,000 miles, I still enjoy this car very much - a real pleasure to drive. The automatic gearbox is superb and performance is very acceptable, especially after a few thousand miles when everything feels properly bedded in.

The cabin is beautifully presented and all materials are obviously of high quality. Extras need to be chosen carefully with a view to resale, some are pretty useless, some essential (leather, auto, decent sound system).

Small niggles, such as the firmness of the seats (nowhere near as good as Saab) and fuel consumption a long way below that claimed don't really detract from what is a very fine car.

    My car

I have owned and driven this car for 14 months and love it to bits! I am a business user and travel over 30,000 miles per year, so a good mix of motorway counry and urban drivin experience with it.

The build quality is second to none and the performance from the 2.7 diesel is surprisingly good.

The only negative comment I can make is experiencing a blow-out on a country road, luckily at low speed. The front off side tyre treads completely delaminated from the sidewall due to excessive wear on the inside edge. Reason? The tracking was badly out of alignment. I contacted Mercedes and was informed that 'geometry' is not a warranty issue after 1000 miles! It also begs the question of what the two dealership services on the vehicle to date include. Obviously does not include a visual check on the tryes!
