I think this car is brilliant on motorways. It has a bit of vibration at the back when you're doing 82mph but you go to 100mph it goes brilliant on long runs, it would return 49mpg if you do 100mph on the motorway with a little bit of traffic.
i had a few problems with the reversing gear 2 years after i brought it. It just kept showing "zero" on the speedometre whe i put it onto reverse. It usually hapens when you are parking on a steep hill or when you put it into reverse gear to early. After all i brangit to my dealer and they fixed that. They said that there was a electricity faulty with the electronic clutch.
What I thought was a great little car: size, looks, equipment was ruined by extremely poor quality and reliability.
Mine is a 2004 model with 20k miles and I have experienced: Broken fan belts, stiff gear changes and blowing exhausts (after 2 years and 10k miles), a broken glove box and now a BROKEN GEARBOX! Which at 20k miles and 7 months out of warranty is just RUBBISH and will cost £1600!!!!!!!!!!!! to replace. I heard of similar problems with other cars. My advice? - choose something else.
The 1.1 engine in the Colt is slightly whiney although having said that it is pretty impressive and doesnt hang about. The interior is very bright and spacious and the rear legroom is really impressive offering more than many luxury estate cars! I truly believe that this is a little unknown gem - incomparable in quality, funness and value than its mass rivals - the fiesta, 207, clio, corsa, etc, and despite the side profile of the 5 door version looking a bit MPVish, I'm laughing when I see people in the competition who have paid more for lower quality, lower fun, and less impressive cars. A great buy which is much understated and unknown. I truly believe that if this had the badge the roads would be full of them.
Good: Interior space - particularly the rear seat configuration. Read the manual and the memory function on the front seats doesn't work. Small oddments spaces but none of them are any use!Excellent engine and terrific performance. Now the bad: Poor forward and rear quarter vision. The led display is invisible if there is any sunlight. Large dash causes reflections in the windscreen. CZT comes with a cobra alarm. Overnight frost causes the driver's release lever to freeze; when you open the car the alarm sounds. Then I either scrabble to remember the code to tap in or pour lukewarm water over the outside of the door until it thaws. Three dealers unable to solve the problem; Mitsubishi refer me to the dealer, they can't find a fault on their equipment and won't pursue because Mitsubishi won't pay if there's no fault showing when they test. After 16000 miles a loud "graunging" noise from the front at low speeds. The dealer can't reproduce it so there's nothing to be done. Eventually someone hears the noise."Handbrake needs adjustment - £58 thanks!" The noise is still there. "Don't worry, it'll go after a few miles. Four weeks later and no change. I manage to get a mechanic in the car. Yes, definitely handbrake - bring it back." Later in the day I get a 'phone call - bad news, "sticking front callipers. New callipers, discs and pads - that'll be £500 before vat and fitting. and brakes aren't covered under the warranty! Despite the driving fun this car is going.
